Most clubs also require a referral or “endorsement” from a current member to ensure the association remains a private circle.
Madrid’s cannabis clubs are not public shops or Amsterdam-style “coffee shops.” They are private associations. While non-residents can often join, they must follow the legal registration process, which includes providing a local address (such as a hotel or rental), paying an annual membership fee, and respecting the private nature of the club. Membership is usually granted for a full year.

Once you are a member, you must follow specific etiquette: cannabis obtained at the club must be consumed on-site or transported discreetly to a private residence.
